An account is not required to check out, but registering lets you track orders, save designs, and receive updates on new colours and promotions. It takes under a minute to set up.
Measuring
You need two key measurements: the outer size (to match the inside of your frame rebate) and the aperture size (the visible window for your image). The aperture should be 3–4 mm smaller than your artwork on each side so the mount overlaps and holds the image in place. Our design tool shows a live scaled preview as you enter measurements — it's the best way to check everything looks right before ordering.
A weighted mount has a slightly deeper bottom border than the top and sides. This is a traditional technique used by framers and galleries because an equal-border mount can appear to sink visually — the eye reads the bottom border as narrower than it actually is. Adding an extra 5–10 mm to the bottom creates the perception of perfect balance. It is a subtle but professional touch.
Yes. Every mount is cut to your exact specified dimensions — there are no fixed size constraints. Enter any outer and aperture size in millimetres, centimetres, or inches using our design tool, and we will cut to those precise measurements.
Yes — our Pro Design Tool supports multi-aperture layouts. You can position any number of windows, in any size and arrangement, with a live preview of the finished result. This is ideal for photo collages, wedding collections, or groups of related prints you want presented together in a single frame.
Materials & Quality
All our mounts are precision-cut from 1.4 mm conservation-grade mountboard. It is fully acid-free with a white core — this means the bevel edge will not discolour over time and the board will not bleed acid into your artwork. The white-core board we use meets the Fine Art Trade Guild's conservation standards, making it suitable for long-term archival framing.
The difference is visible on the bevelled cut edge. White core board has a pure white centre that stays bright indefinitely — typically rated to last over 300 years without yellowing. Cream core board has an off-white centre that can gradually discolour when exposed to light, usually over 5–15 years. For anything with long-term value — original artwork, limited-edition prints, or sentimental photographs — white core is always the better choice.
Yes. Every aperture is cut with a precise 45-degree bevel using computerised cutting equipment. The angled edge catches the light beautifully, draws the eye inward towards your image, and gives a clean, professional finish that cannot be replicated with a hand-held craft knife.
We stock over 20 mountboard colours — from classic whites and off-whites through stone, grey, black, and a range of accent colours. The most popular choice remains white or off-white, which complements virtually any artwork. See the full range on our Colours page, or request samples to assess shades against your work before ordering.
A double mount uses two layers of board. The bottom layer is cut slightly smaller, so a thin strip of its colour shows around the aperture edge — creating a layered, premium effect. Double mounts add depth and are popular for wedding photographs, limited-edition prints, and gallery presentations where a more considered finish is desired.
Delivery
We aim to cut and dispatch all orders within 2–3 working days of receipt. Once dispatched, orders are sent via next-day tracked courier service. You will receive a dispatch notification with tracking details by email.
Yes — we deliver to all UK addresses including Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands, and the Islands at standard rates. See our Shipping page for full details and pricing.
Mounts are carefully packaged in rigid board-backed packaging designed to prevent bending during transit. For larger orders, additional protection is used to ensure every mount arrives flat and undamaged.
Returns & Damage
Because every mount is custom-made to your exact specifications, we are unable to accept returns or offer refunds for correctly-cut orders. Please double-check all measurements and colour choices carefully before placing your order — our design tool's live preview is there to help. If your item arrives damaged or we have made an error, we will of course put this right at no cost to you.
Please contact us by email within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photographs of the damage and the outer packaging. We take great care in packing every order, but in the rare event of transit damage we will resolve this quickly with a replacement. See our Damages Policy for full details.
If you notice an error immediately after placing your order, contact us as quickly as possible and we will do our best to amend it before cutting begins. Once production has started we are unable to make changes, so please review the live preview carefully in the design tool before checking out.
